The Need for Problem-solving Politics

America is experiencing chronic environmental, economic, social, and national security problems that will have disastrous consequences if they are not solved. However, conventional politics cannot solve these problems. To a large extent, conventional politics is the problem.

ReformDemocrats offers a strategy for resolving this impasse.

Free of both interest group funding and ideological rigidity, ReformDemocrats draws upon the best public policy proposals emanating from public intellectuals, the universities, and think tanks to formulate our program. We view politics as an instrument for gaining the enactment of good public policies that will solve societal problems, not the search for issues that will ensure election and reelection.

Developing a Compelling Policy Vision

Given American institutional realities, which make third-party strategies counterproductive, and given our general support for the Democratic Party and its traditions, we believe that the Democratic Party can become a viable instrument for effective problem-solving. Our mission is to work within the Democratic Party to confront the long-term problems that our political system ignores, offer solutions for these problems, and work toward the enactment of our program. Currently, the Democratic Party lacks a clear policy vision that offers a realistic strategy for solving America's most serious problems. We believe that our program makes a significant contribution toward filling this void.
